Manes & Tails Organization in Hoboken, NJ
Manes & Tails Organization is a Hoboken, New Jersey animal shelter located in Hudson County, where 6 other animal shelters or rescues also operate; it sits roughly 2 miles south of Jersey City, NJ. Incorporated in June of 2004, the organization rescues slaughter-bound Thoroughbreds, Quarterhorses, and Paints and places them through free lease rather than sale, a practice that allows it to guarantee each horse a permanent, quality home for life. The rescued horses have included descendants of famous bloodlines such as Seattle Slew, Secretariat, Mr. Prospector, and Quarterhorse champion Impressive, with horses in its care ranging from 7 to 18 years old. The group also supports retired NYPD Mounted Police Unit horses and counts a former USDA Chief Inspector, Dr. Lester Friedlander, DVM, among its board members.
