Nevada Humane Society is a nonprofit animal welfare organization serving Sparks, Nevada and the surrounding Washoe County community, where 11 other animal shelters and rescues also operate; the shelter itself sits about a mile northwest of Sparks. For nearly a century, it has been uniting people and animals by rescuing dogs, cats, and small mammals and offering nose-to-tail support from intake through adoption. Beyond adoptions, the organization runs a Pet Pantry, a low-cost veterinary clinic offering vaccines and spay/neuter services, lost-and-found pet resources, and an animal rehoming program for owners facing difficult circumstances. It relies on a network of volunteers, donors, and community partners, having saved more than 140,000 animals to date, including 8,501 adoptions in 2025 alone.

Adoption process

Adopters must be at least 18 with a current photo ID; the process involves finding a pet, meeting it at either the Reno or Carson City campus, and then completing adoption paperwork with the Client Services Team, who provide transition tips afterward.
