About this shelter

Bunnies Urgently Needing Shelter (B.U.N.S.) / Santa Barbara County Animal Shelter in Santa Barbara, CA

Bunnies Urgently Needing Shelter (B.U.N.S.) operates within the Santa Barbara County Animal Shelter, located about 90 miles east of Los Angeles, California, in Santa Barbara County — home to 14 other animal shelters and rescues. This all-volunteer, independent non-profit is dedicated to the care and welfare of rabbits and guinea pigs, caring for stray and abandoned rabbits under contract with the county at no cost to the public. Its animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before adoption, and every adopting family receives personalized counseling from a BUNS volunteer to ensure the right match, along with ongoing rabbit-care guidance after adoption. Beyond sheltering, BUNS promotes spay/neuter programs and public education on the humane care and behavior of rabbits and other small animals.
