Founded in 1992, it is a private, open-admission shelter that takes in more than a thousand animals each year, turning no animal away regardless of age, temperament, medical condition, or breed, and places 100% of its adoptable animals into new homes. Beyond adoption, the organization runs a range of programs including low-cost spay/neuter services, a wellness clinic, a pet food bank, a SafePet foster program for pets of owners in crisis, and a community cat program, alongside humane education for the public. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, its mission is to ensure the compassionate care, treatment, and placement of companion animals while promoting the welfare of all animals through education and outreach.

Adoption process

Fill out an adoption application (available for dogs, cats, or small animals/birds) and submit it to the shelter; applicants must be 21 or older with valid photo ID and must provide proof of home ownership or landlord permission; then meet with an adoption counselor, spend time with the pet (dogs require a "Meet and Greet"), and sign an adoption contract at pickup.
