Adoption Process

The adoption fees are as follows: Adult cats are $85, senior cats are $50, kittens are $125, large dogs are $175, small dogs are $225, puppies are $300, senior dogs are $100, and small animals range from $10 to $45 depending on the species.

The Humane Society of Charles County (HSCC) is dedicated to providing shelter and care for homeless, injured, and neglected animals through adoption, fostering, community partnerships, education, and affordable spay-neuter and vaccine services. Founded in 1975 by a group of community volunteers who recognized that the county's existing animal shelter could not adequately protect the most vulnerable animals, HSCC was established to advocate for those in need. Initially operating out of a garage, the organization was incorporated as a 501(C)3 nonprofit in August 1979, grounded in a profound respect for all living beings. From its inception, HSCC has been committed to caring for animals and serving the community by offering love, support, and safety for animals, while respecting all individuals. Each year, HSCC provides compassionate shelter and care to over 2,300 homeless animals, inspires more than 10,000 school children, nursing home residents, veterans, and community members through humane education, Paws to Read, and pet therapy programs, and offers low-to-no cost veterinary services for more than 3,000 pets in need. The organization successfully finds homes for over 1,600 animals annually and rescues nearly 200 young animals through its fostering programs. In 2016, HSCC launched the Forever Friends Community Outreach program, which has since assisted over 3,000 community cats and their caregivers with free spay/neuter services and pet food pantry resources. As an open admission shelter, HSCC is proud of its commitment to accept all animals brought to its facilities, regardless of their health or temperament. The organization envisions a community where animals are cherished and no longer require protection and shelter.
