Somerset - Pulaski County Humane Society in Somerset, KY
The Somerset - Pulaski County Humane Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit located in Somerset, Kentucky, within Pulaski County, where four other animal shelters or rescues also operate, roughly 50 miles north of Richmond, KY. Founded in June 1989, the organization is a private, local animal welfare group run entirely by volunteers, with no paid staff, and it is distinct from the county-run Pulaski County Animal Shelter, though the two collaborate on a case-by-case basis. Its mission centers on preventing animal cruelty, educating the community on proper animal care, promoting spay/neuter programs, and encouraging pro-animal legislation, alongside pet rescue and adoption work. Since purchasing its facility on Chris Way in 2012 and partnering with a local veterinarian starting in 2014, the humane society has run a low-cost spay/neuter clinic and pledges to provide animals in its care with loving foster homes and opportunities for socialization before adoption.
