Adoption Process

The first step in the adoption process is to complete an application. For some adoptions, a home visit may be required. The adoption fee for dogs is $85.00, while for cats it is $50.00. This fee covers the cost of spaying or neutering, a heartworm test, a Feline Leukemia/FIV test for cats, and ensures that the animals are up to date on vaccinations and have been treated for worms. Please note that some cats may have a portion of their adoption fee sponsored, which could result in a lower cost.

Mercer Humane Society in Harrodsburg, KY

We provide foster care for homeless cats and dogs from the county animal shelter and those surrendered by their owners until they can be adopted. Our goal is to reduce the euthanasia rates at the county shelter by alleviating overcrowding. The euthanasia rates for cats remain particularly high, and we urgently need more foster homes and adopters for them. We also offer spay and neuter assistance to those in need and educate local citizens about animal welfare issues.
