Eskie Rescuers United is a nonprofit rescue organization based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, within Linn County, where five other animal shelters and rescues also operate; the group is located approximately 5 miles southwest of Cedar Rapids. Founded in March 2003, ERU is a nation-wide, volunteer-run 501(c)3 charity dedicated exclusively to rescuing American Eskimo Dogs, and it has rescued, rehabilitated, and rehomed over 2,000 orphaned Eskies since opening. The organization relies solely on donated funds and has a special program devoted to senior and special-needs Eskies, believing these dogs deserve loving homes in their golden years. Volunteers foster the dogs, provide necessary medical care, and work to place them in permanent, caring homes.
