Adoption Process
The adoption fee for dogs and puppies is $100. This fee covers spaying or neutering, a microchip, the DHLP/P vaccine (which protects against Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus), a Rabies vaccine (if the animal is of appropriate age), a Bordetella vaccine, a heartworm blood test, a Frontline flea treatment, and a bath. For cats and kittens, the adoption fee is $75. This includes spaying or neutering, a microchip, the FVRCP vaccine (which protects against Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia), a Rabies vaccine (if age-appropriate), a FeLV (Feline leukemia virus) test, and a Frontline flea treatment. Individuals interested in adopting an animal must complete an application at the shelter, and there is a 24-hour waiting period before the adoption can be finalized. Adopters must be at least 21 years old. The adopted animal must be spayed or neutered by a specified date, and a legally binding contract confirming this requirement must be signed at the time of adoption. Adoptions are primarily available to residents of La Porte County. Out-of-county adoptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis. We do not ship animals to adopters.
