Adoption Process

Same-day adoptions are not permitted. An adoption contract must be approved prior to adoption. The fee is $75, which covers all vaccinations and the spay/neuter procedure. For the application download and specific requirements, please visit catsociety.org.

Independent Cat Society in Westville, IN

The Independent Cat Society is a no-kill cat shelter located in Westville, Indiana, approximately one hour east of Chicago, 2.5 hours north of Indianapolis, and 45 minutes west of South Bend, Indiana. Since our establishment in 1977, our primary objective has been to find permanent homes for homeless cats in our community. After each cat is spayed or neutered, we prioritize placing them in safe, loving, and lasting homes. As a recognized nonprofit organization under section 501(c)(3), the Independent Cat Society relies almost entirely on membership, adoption fees, fundraising events, and the generous tax-deductible contributions of compassionate individuals. While we have a small staff for cleaning and medical care, our shelter is primarily run by dedicated volunteers, and we do not receive government funding. Every cat that enters our shelter undergoes a veterinary examination, is spayed or neutered, and receives all necessary vaccinations and medical treatment. Our no-kill policy ensures that we do not euthanize cats unless a veterinarian recommends it to alleviate suffering. Our mission is to enhance the welfare of all animals by focusing on several key areas: reducing pet overpopulation, educating the public, preventing cruelty to animals, promoting responsible pet ownership, and advocating for more humane legislation.
