Humane Society of Fulton County in Canton, IL
The Humane Society of Fulton County is located in Canton, Illinois, in Mason County, roughly 35 miles northeast of Peoria, and is one of five animal shelters or rescues serving that county. The shelter was built in 2007 and is the only shelter in Fulton County, taking in cats and dogs from throughout the county with the help of Animal Control and volunteers. It is not a no-kill facility, and euthanasia is used only after all other options for adoption or rescue placement have been exhausted. The organization relies on volunteers to walk, bathe, groom, and socialize the animals, and encourages adopters to consider harder-to-place pets, such as black dogs and cats and animals with special needs.
