Adoption Process

Applicants browse available pets, submit an application and complete an interview, then attend a meet & greet with an adoption counselor who gives final approval; once approved, applicants pay the adoption fee and sign a contract to take the pet home.

Adopt-A-Pet, Inc. is a Mt. Prospect, Illinois animal shelter located in Cook County, about 20 miles southeast of Chicago, and one of 70 animal shelters and rescues serving the Cook County area. It operates without a physical shelter facility, instead placing all of its adoptable cats and dogs in private foster homes until they find permanent families. Its mission is centered on keeping people's pets safe with their families and out of shelters, and it runs an Emergency Pet Food and Veterinary Care Relief Fund to help owners facing financial hardship keep their animals rather than surrender them. Cats and dogs available for adoption come with a vet exam, disease testing, core vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, and spay/neuter as part of the adoption fee.
