Tara's Exotic Rescue in Boise, ID

Tara's Exotic Rescue is an in-home exotic animal rescue located in Boise, Idaho, in Ada County, roughly 3 miles east of Boise, where 14 other animal shelters and rescues also operate. The rescue takes in chinchillas, degus, rats, mice, hedgehogs, sugar gliders, and parrots on an as-needed basis, having grown out of earlier work in cat rescue and wildlife rescue with AIDA (Animals in Distress). Every animal is health-checked and socialized before adoption, and those who are sick or elderly are cared for for the rest of their lives rather than being rehomed. The founder works alongside a vet tech named Kay and welcomes surrenders of exotic pets as well as injured or orphaned animals in need of help.

Adoption process

Prospective adopters fill out an application (copied into an email or printed) with personal and household info, then sign an adoption contract agreeing to provide humane care, proper supplies, and veterinary care, and to return the animal to the rescue rather than rehoming it elsewhere.
