About this shelter

Horse Rescue, Relief and Retirement Fund, Inc. & Shelter in Cumming, GA

Horse Rescue, Relief and Retirement Fund, Inc. & Shelter, doing business as Save the Horses, is an equine rescue based in Cumming, Georgia, located in Cherokee County alongside 6 other animal shelters and rescues in the county, roughly 35 miles south of Atlanta. Established in 1998 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, its mission is to rescue abused, abandoned, and neglected horses and other animals, following a philosophy of "Rescue, Rehabilitate, Love, & Re-home." Operating as a no-kill, all-volunteer shelter with no government funding, it cares for around 100 horses of all sizes—including dwarf, mini, and draft breeds—plus roughly 30 other animals such as donkeys, sheep, pigs, goats, and chickens across its farms in Cumming and Talking Rock, Georgia. The organization relies entirely on donations, sponsorships, and fundraising events to cover feed, medical care, and facility costs for its rescued animals.
