Safe Harbor Lab Rescue in Golden, CO

Safe Harbor Lab Rescue is a rescue organization located in Golden, Colorado, open 24 hours every day of the week and situated approximately 8 miles southeast of Lakewood, CO. Founded in 2002, this all-volunteer organization has rescued, fostered, and adopted out more than 4,500 Labrador Retrievers, taking in dogs from Colorado and surrounding states before fostering them in the Denver area. Its mission is to rescue, provide compassionate care, and successfully rehome stray, abandoned, or surrendered Labrador Retrievers, with priority given to those in Colorado, and it places special emphasis on caring for Labs with treatable medical conditions as well as senior "grey-muzzled" dogs abandoned in their golden years. The organization relies on fosters, adopters, volunteers, and donors to fulfill its vision that every adoptable Lab will have a good quality of life in a loving home.

Adoption process

Applicants submit an online adoption application and are contacted only if a matching Lab becomes available, as decided by the Adoption Coordinators; applications are kept on file for three months, and requirements include children being at least 7, applicants at least 21, existing dogs over one year being spayed/neutered, and landlord permission if renting.
