Gateway Humane Society, Inc. is located in Falls Creek, Pennsylvania, about 80 miles southwest of Pittsburgh. Founded more than thirty years ago by a group of volunteers who initially cared for animals in their own homes, the organization opened its current modern shelter to the public on July 14, 2008, following construction of the facility in 2006, which includes two dog run areas housing up to thirty-two dogs and two cat rooms holding a minimum of fourteen cats. It is the only public, non-profit, no-kill animal rescue shelter in the local area, caring for both cats and dogs without breed restrictions, and relies solely on donations from the public, private individuals, and businesses to fund its care of the animals. The shelter is open Monday 4:00–7:00 PM, Tuesday 12:00–4:00 PM, Wednesday 4:00–7:00 PM, and Saturday 12:00–4:00 PM, and welcomes visitors to tour the facility and meet adoptable pets.

Adoption process

Applicants meet the pet at the shelter, fill out a pre-adoption form and interview, then are contacted within 3 to 7 days about approval; if approved, they pay (cash only) and pick up the pet during a later open business day, bringing their own collar and leash.
