Adoption Process

Applicants must submit a completed application (online or by mail), which is reviewed with references and landlord verification if renting; a home visit is required (pre-adoption if outside metro-Atlanta), followed by signing an Adoption Agreement, Disclosure Statement, and Spay/Neuter Agreement (if applicable) along with a tax-deductible adoption donation.

Basset Hound Rescue of Georgia, Inc. is a rescue organization based in Marietta, Georgia, located in Cobb County, about 15 miles south of Atlanta, and one of 15 other animal shelters or rescues also serving Cobb County. Founded in 1991 by two volunteers, BHRG is now a 501(c)3 nonprofit that has saved more than 3,000 basset hounds and is the only licensed basset hound rescue in Georgia. The organization has no kennel or facility of its own; its dogs live in foster homes and with veterinary and boarding partners throughout the metro-Atlanta area, and all work is carried out by unpaid volunteers who love the breed. BHRG relies entirely on donations and hosts events like the Spring Fling Dinner Auction and the annual Basset Bash to fund vetting, boarding, preventative care, and transportation for the hounds in its care.
