About this shelter

Compassionate Animal Rescue Efforts of Dutchess County in Wappingers Falls, NY

Compassionate Animal Rescue Efforts of Dutchess County (CARE of DC) is a rescue organization located in Wappingers Falls, New York, about 40 miles southeast of Norwalk, CT, and is open Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Founded in 2016 by Karen LeCain in the Poughkeepsie area, it operates as a "No Kill" nonprofit pet adoption agency dedicated to placing dogs, cats, and other critters with responsible, carefully screened adoptive families. The organization provides temporary shelter and medical care for stray and abandoned animals, promotes spaying and neutering to reduce stray populations, and works closely with area veterinarians, sponsors, and other nonprofits. All adoptable dogs and cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, with dogs also heartworm tested and cats tested for FIV/FeLV prior to placement.
