The Adoption Center in Selden, NY

The Adoption Center is a not-for-profit, all-volunteer 501(c)3 animal shelter located in Selden, New York, about 25 miles north of Bridgeport, CT. The organization is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of puppies, dogs, kittens, and cats who have been abandoned, abused, neglected, sick, or otherwise unwanted, taking animals in from grassroots rescue groups and kill shelters. Dogs are brought to pet stores for public "Meet and Greet" adoption events, while cats are featured on Petfinder and matched through private meetings since they tend to do better outside a busy store environment. The Adoption Center also supports local trap-neuter-return programs for feral cats and provides community education on the proper care and treatment of dogs and cats.

Adoption process

Adopters must submit an application and complete an interview to determine fit, provide a veterinarian reference, and sign a contract agreeing to a vet check-up within 15 days of adoption; instructions on introducing the pet to the home, feeding, and medical care are provided at adoption.
