Franklin County Humane Society of Missouri is a privately run 501(c)(3) humane society located in Union, Missouri, about 45 miles east of St. Louis. Incorporated in 1981, it operated as a foster network for homeless pets for 13 years before opening its current shelter location in Union in 1994. The organization is dedicated to serving homeless, abandoned, and lost dogs and cats, promoting animal and human welfare through the care and adoption of homeless animals and through programs that enrich people's lives via animal interaction. It is open Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Friday and Saturday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

You must visit the shelter and meet the animal in person (holds aren't given until you've met it), and if you have dogs at home a meet-and-greet with them is required; you can fill out an application online beforehand, and adopters must be 21 or older.
