Dirk’s Fund Shelter in Pacific, MO

Dirk's Fund Shelter is an animal shelter located in Pacific, Missouri, about 35 miles east of St. Louis, and is open Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. It began in the 1980s when Bob and Ona Tillay started rescuing dogs, taking in a Golden Retriever named Jenny from animal control and going on to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome eleven dogs in their first year. The organization was foster-based for many years before moving into its permanent facility on Indian Warpath Drive in Pacific, a kennel that can hold up to 12 dogs with indoor and outdoor pens, five yards, and a Meet and Greet room for adopters. Every dog at Dirk's Fund is vaccinated, spayed or neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested, with adopters required to provide previous vet records and complete a home visit; the shelter's name comes from a Great Pyrenees named Dirk whose surgery was funded by donations that gave the organization its name.
