Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation in Falls Church, VA

Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation, located in Falls Church, Virginia, about 7 miles east of Washington, DC, is a dog rescue that helps homeless pets find their way into loving homes through rescue and adoption. Since 2001, the organization has saved the lives of more than 50,000 homeless pets, most of whom were facing the threat of euthanasia at overcrowded municipal shelters, and it now facilitates roughly 2,500 adoptions each year with the help of volunteers who logged more than 48,500 hours in 2025. The rescue relies on foster homes to give dogs and cats a safe place to decompress and prepare for their forever homes, and it partners with the Lost Dog Café and Stray Cat Bar & Grill, restaurants established by founder Pam McAlwee to support its lifesaving mission. It is open daily from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM and 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

Adopters browse available dogs/cats online, submit an adoption application in advance, then attend a weekend adoption event to sign up for and complete an interview with an Adoption Counselor; if approved, adopters pay the adoption fee and take the pet home the same day, with a two-week trial period included.
