The Humane Society of Montgomery County, located in Christiansburg, Virginia, about 70 miles south of Winston-Salem, NC, was founded in 1971 and has always operated as a no-kill shelter. It runs solely on donations, receiving no local, state, or federal funding, and relies on community support along with its Second Time Around thrift shop to fund its work. The shelter also runs a cat spay/neuter mobile clinic to support the community. It's open Wednesday and Thursday 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Friday and Saturday 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM, and Sunday 1:00 – 6:00 PM.
