The Humane Society of Fairfax County, Inc. is a humane society located in Centreville, Virginia, about 25 miles east of Alexandria, VA. Since 1965, it has helped rescue and protect animals from abuse, neglect, abandonment, and cruelty, fostering humane treatment through education, rescue, adoptions, and community support. Its mission is to promote humane education, prevent all forms of cruelty to animals—both domestic and wild—by every legitimate means, and to assist the community with matters pertaining to animal welfare; adoptable animals include dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, and horses. The shelter is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 4:00 to 7:00 PM, and it also runs a thrift store, an Ani-Meals program, and low-cost spay and neuter resources for the community.
