Hiawatha Animal Humane Society, located in Lake City, Minnesota, about 30 miles south of Rochester, is a foster-home-only humane society that operates without a physical shelter facility, relying instead on a network of volunteer foster homes to care for animals awaiting adoption, including kittens and other pets. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Membership meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at the Lake City Public Library and are open to all area animal lovers, not just members. Donations are mailed to the organization's PO Box in Lake City, and the community is encouraged to get involved by fostering or volunteering.
