The Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin, located in Janesville, Wisconsin about 25 miles south of Rockford, IL, is a private nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to providing shelter and humane care to lost and homeless pets, reuniting lost pets with their families, and promoting positive adoptions. Formerly known as the Rock County Humane Society, it was founded in 1910 and has been saving the lives of animals in need for more than 100 years. The shelter offers dogs, cats, and small critters for adoption, along with low-cost spay/neuter and wellness/vaccine services, and relies on donations and fundraising for more than a third of its annual budget. It's open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 12:00–7:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 12:00–5:00 PM.
