The Humane Society of Lincoln County, NC, is located in Lincolnton, North Carolina, about 25 miles southeast of Charlotte. Incorporated in 1989, this 501(c)(3) organization is run entirely by volunteers and does not operate an animal shelter or accept surrendered animals; instead, its mission centers on providing low-cost spay/neuter services to prevent unwanted litters and reduce shelter overpopulation. Since 2000, it has facilitated more than 17,000 low-cost spay/neuter surgeries in partnership with the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance in Asheville, and it also runs a food pantry to help local pet owners in need. The organization supports Lincoln County's move toward a no-kill philosophy for animal shelters and encourages pet owners to spay or neuter their animals as early as four months of age.
