About this shelter

City of Norman Animal Welfare in Norman, OK

City of Norman Animal Welfare is an animal shelter located in Norman, Oklahoma, about 3 miles north of the city. It is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM–1:00 PM and 2:00–5:30 PM, and Saturday from 10:00 AM–1:00 PM and 2:00–4:00 PM. The shelter operates out of a 13,246-square-foot facility completed in 2016 that houses a full veterinary clinic performing spay/neuter surgeries and other treatments for the nearly 2,000 animals it adopts out annually. Its mission centers on encouraging responsible pet ownership through education, enforcement, and community partnership, and all animals are spayed or neutered before adoption for a $50 fee that includes vaccinations, de-worming, and a heartworm test for dogs; strong community and volunteer support help the shelter maintain a live release rate above 90%.
