About this shelter

South Orange Rescue Squad in South Orange Village, NJ

South Orange Rescue Squad is a 100% volunteer-based emergency rescue organization located in South Orange Village, New Jersey, about 5 miles east of Newark. Founded in 1952, the squad has served its community for decades, historically headquartered on Third Street since 1970 until that site was redeveloped, prompting a rebuilding effort funded entirely by community donations and grants. It operates on a set weekly schedule—6:00 PM to 6:00 AM Monday through Thursday, 6:00 PM to midnight on Friday, and 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday—and relies on public support, fundraisers, and partnerships such as a grant from Investors Savings Bank to sustain its ambulance services.
