Formally known as the Whidbey Animals' Improvement Foundation (WAIF), it is a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in 1990 to help Whidbey Island's homeless companion animals, providing food, shelter, veterinary care, and nurturing to displaced pets, including both cats and dogs, until loving homes can be found for them. The organization also runs adoption, volunteer, and community programs such as Seniors for Seniors and CATsNIP, along with thrift stores that support its mission.
