P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center is an animal shelter located in Camden, Maine, about 45 miles north of Bangor. The shelter has served the Midcoast Maine community for more than 50 years, offering animal adoption, veterinary care, and supportive services for pets and pet owners, including a spay and neuter program, a pet food and supply pantry, and a community veterinary clinic. It cares for both cats and dogs, reuniting lost pets with their families and helping give sick or injured animals a second chance. The shelter is open for visitation Tuesday through Sunday from 12:00 to 4:00 PM.

Adoption process

You must be 18+ to adopt; view adoptable pets online, submit an application, and PAWS will check veterinarian and (if renting) landlord references before contacting you to discuss the animal and schedule a meet-and-greet at the shelter. Dog adoptions also require a meet with current family dogs and a week-long sleepover trial before finalizing paperwork.
