About this shelter

Little Dog Rescue of North Texas, Inc. in Little Elm, TX

Little Dog Rescue of North Texas, Inc. is a 501(c)(3), all-volunteer dog rescue based in Little Elm, Texas, about 30 miles south of Dallas. It is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The organization rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes small breed dogs, acting as a rescue partner to North Texas animal shelters by providing veterinary care, in-home fostering, and carefully placed adoptions, and it also accepts little dogs from owners who can no longer care for them. Much of its intake involves major surgical care for dogs hit by cars or injured in abusive or hoarding situations, and it promotes responsible pet ownership and spay/neuter education to reduce overpopulation.

Adoption process

Applicants fill out an online adoption application, which is reviewed by volunteers (taking up to a week), then approved applicants are contacted to schedule visits with the dog at both the foster home and the applicant's home; once approved, the adopter signs an adoption contract and pays the adoption fee before scheduling delivery or pickup of the dog.
