Settler's Pond Animal Shelter is located in Beecher, Illinois, about 35 miles north of Chicago, IL, and is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, seven days a week. It has been rescuing abused and abandoned animals since 1998, growing from a family farm into a non-profit, 501(c)3, no-kill shelter that cares for domestic, wild, and exotic animals, including monkeys, tortoises, wild burros, a camel, and traditional cats and dogs, among many others. Injured animals are rehabilitated on-site and domestic pets are adopted out when possible, while the shelter also fosters animals for zoos and wildlife organizations. Visitors can tour an indoor petting zoo, museum, and other exhibits, with proceeds from its Pumpkin Patch & Fall Festival helping fund the shelter's ongoing rescue work.
