Adoptions must be done in person at the shelter (no online application); adopters view available pets online or in person, and must bring a valid government-issued ID, with renters required to show landlord approval before adopting.

Second Chance Humane Society - Delta in Delta, CO

Second Chance Humane Society – Delta is located in Delta, Colorado and is open daily from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, seven days a week. It is part of Second Chance Humane Society, a 501(c)(3) organization that has served Western Colorado communities, including Ouray, San Miguel, and Montrose Counties, since 1994, guided by core values of Compassion, Action, Resourcefulness, and Integrity ("CARIng"). Second Chance took over operations of the Delta Animal Shelter beginning May 1, 2026, and subsequently launched the community's first-ever local dog adoption program there, ending the need for Delta residents to travel elsewhere to adopt a pet. The organization's broader mission is improving the lives of animals by fostering the human-animal bond, and it also offers veterinary services, thrift shops, foster and volunteer programs, and community outreach events. This location sits roughly 140 miles south of Farmington, New Mexico.
