Lighthouse Animal Rescue in Edgewater, FL
Lighthouse Animal Rescue is a no-kill animal rescue and adoption center located in Edgewater, Florida, in Volusia County, roughly 40 miles southwest of Orlando, where 10 other animal shelters and rescues also operate. The organization takes in animals through owner surrenders, kill shelters, puppy mills, and off the street, including many that have been abused, neglected, or otherwise left homeless, and works actively to raise awareness against puppy mills. Each animal is given veterinary care—covering things like spay/neuter and treatment for conditions such as ear mites, mange, and infections—before adoption, funded through an adoption fee since Lighthouse operates as a not-for-profit shelter. Adopters are required to complete an adoption application and sign an adoption contract, and the rescue also relies on volunteers to help with exercising, bathing, and socializing the animals in its care.
