Adoption Process
Adoption fees for cats range from $30 to $150, depending on various factors, with occasional fee-waived promotions available. The fee for dogs is $250, while the fee for other animals is typically $20. The adoption process at LCHS involves several straightforward steps. First, prospective adopters should view our list of adoptable animals and select the pet or pets they are interested in adopting. Next, applicants should contact our office at 224-9193 to speak with one of our adoption counselors, who will facilitate communication with the foster parent of the chosen animal. In some cases, foster parents may prefer direct contact, and if so, the pet's profile will include a link to their email. After establishing communication, interested adopters must fill out an adoption questionnaire. If both the adopter and the foster parent agree that it is a suitable match, an appointment can be made to complete the adoption paperwork at our office. Lastly, a home visit will be conducted by an LCHS representative. We are committed to ensuring the best match between pets and their potential owners, and our requirements are tailored to meet the specific needs of each animal.

Leon County Humane Society in Tallahassee, FL
Our mission is to alleviate animal suffering, prevent cruelty to animals, eliminate overpopulation, promote humane education, and strengthen the bond between humans and animals. The Leon County Humane Society is the largest no-kill, non-profit animal welfare organization in Tallahassee, committed to saving homeless pets in the community. We focus on educating the public about responsible pet ownership and reducing pet overpopulation through initiatives such as Spay/Neuter, Rescue Ride, and Friends Fur Life. As a no-kill organization, we operate as a "limited intake" shelter. We collaborate closely with other local animal welfare agencies and transfer animals from shelters that euthanize for space, including the Tallahassee Leon Community Animal Services Center. We do not accept animals directly from the public. Once an animal is accepted into our foster and adoption program, it will not be euthanized due to space constraints. An animal will remain in our program until it is adopted, unless unforeseen medical or behavioral issues arise that render it unadoptable. Tallahassee is an ASPCA Partnership Community, and the Leon County Humane Society is proud to be part of this innovative program. Over the next three to five years, we will work alongside the ASPCA and other partner organizations to reduce the homeless pet population in Tallahassee and provide essential resources for pets in our area.
