Founded in 1988 as a spay/neuter assistance operation, it has grown into a full-service humane society that serves Winnebago County and the surrounding areas, offering adoption and fostering programs for dogs and cats. The organization's mission is to promote, support, and provide for the humane treatment and welfare of animals, working toward a day when every pet has a home and animals are no longer euthanized simply for lacking one. As a volunteer-driven nonprofit that receives no government funding, PAWS relies on community donations and also works with local public schools to educate future animal owners.
