The Ames Animal Shelter is a no-kill animal rescue and sheltering agency located at 325 Billy Sunday Road in Ames, Iowa, about 30 miles south of Des Moines. The shelter cares for dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small pets, and thanks to its adopters, donors, volunteers, and community partners, it places over 98% of these animals into new homes or returns them to their original owners. The public is welcome to walk through the facility to visit the animals, though one-on-one interactions outside of kennels are reserved for scheduled adoption appointments to protect the animals' mental and physical well-being. The shelter is open Monday 12:00–4:00 PM, Tuesday through Friday 12:00–5:30 PM, and Saturday 12:00–4:00 PM.
