Greater Birmingham Humane Society is a humane society located in Hoover, Alabama, open Tuesday through Saturday from 1:00–5:00 PM, and situated about 4 miles northeast of Hoover. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, GBHS operates an Animal Care & Control division that has served Jefferson County and its municipalities since January 2015, handling stray pickups, cruelty investigations, and animal control services for unincorporated Jefferson County. Every animal taken in receives full vaccinations, flea and tick treatment, and a veterinary assessment, with 24/7 veterinarian coverage available, and after the state-mandated 7-day stray hold, unclaimed animals are transferred to the GBHS adoption facility to find a forever home. The organization also promotes responsible pet ownership through education and provides ongoing medical care, including spay/neuter surgery and microchipping, through its dedicated Spay/Neuter & Critical Care Clinic in Hoover.
