A Woof Over My Head in Portland, OR

I have been actively involved in dog rescue for over 25 years. My journey began in the 1990s when I rescued street dogs, provided them with medical care, and successfully placed them in loving homes. Currently, I concentrate on helping local owner surrenders that are listed for free or at low cost on platforms such as Craigslist and Facebook. Many local rescues are unable to accept these dogs, which significantly reduces their chances of finding a safe, permanent home. Unfortunately, these animals often experience neglect or abuse, leading to behavioral issues, or they may be exploited in fighting rings or similar situations. My work stems from a deep love and concern for dogs. Additionally, I have volunteered in the lost and found animal community, moderated several Facebook pages dedicated to this cause, and appeared on television to discuss the topic. Through these efforts, I have assisted many people in locating their lost dogs.

Adoption process

The adoption process involves several steps: first, potential adopters make an inquiry and engage in a conversation about adoption. Next, they complete an application and provide personal references, which are followed by a veterinary check for any current pets. A home check is then conducted, during which there is an opportunity to meet the pet. After this, an adoption contract is signed. Following the adoption, there are check-ins to ensure a smooth transition. A trial period is also established to assess compatibility. Additionally, post-adoption support is offered, including a free consultation with a trainer and in-home training services.
