Adoption Process

Our adoption process begins with the completion and approval of an application. Applicants must meet specific criteria, including not being away from home for more than six hours a day, providing adequate exercise for a Jack Russell Terrier, having experience with JRTs or a willingness to learn, maintaining a good history of dog ownership, and having an indoor living environment. If the application is acceptable, we will arrange a meeting. If the meeting is successful, we will proceed with a two-week trial placement accompanied by an adoption contract. This contract ensures that we will support the dog for its entire life, and it requires that the dog be returned to us if circumstances change. Our standard adoption fee ranges from $150 to $200 for dogs that are spayed/neutered, dewormed, and up to date on vaccinations. We waive adoption fees for senior or special needs dogs or in special circumstances, but we always require a completed contract and conduct lifetime follow-ups on each dog to the best of our ability. In rare cases where we place a puppy, we also require a spay/neuter deposit in addition to the adoption fee. This deposit will be refunded to the adopters upon providing proof of spaying or neutering within one year of adoption. We have not encountered any issues with this process, as adopters have consistently been very responsible.

Service Areas

We primarily accept Jack Russell terriers from Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, with occasional intakes from Utah, Montana, and California. Our adoption services are focused on the same Pacific Northwest region, although we have successfully placed a few dogs in Alaska, where applicants must fly to pick up the dogs as we do not ship them. Additionally, we have placed dogs in the Midwest and one in Tennessee.

Jack Russell Rescue Oregon Washington & Idaho Inc. in Clatskanie, OR

I have been operating this rescue organization since 2007, having begun as a volunteer foster home in 2006. My motivation stems from my deep love for my first Jack Russell Terrier, who I considered irreplaceable after his passing. I chose to give back to the breed by volunteering for Jack Russell Terrier rescue. When the original leader of the group stepped down, I took the initiative to rebuild the organization, expanding its reach from one state, Oregon, and just two volunteers, to successfully placing over 400 dogs in loving homes. Today, we have a dedicated team of twelve volunteers and a strong support network for adopters. I am currently semi-retired, living in a rural area, and have experience working with dogs and horses since childhood. My passion for Jack Russell Terriers remains strong.
