Adoption Process

To begin the adoption process with Paws Across Pittsburgh, interested individuals should fill out an online application. This form collects essential information about the potential adopter, their living situation, and their preferences for a pet. Once the application is submitted, the organization will review it and may contact the applicant for further discussion. This step may involve a phone interview to better understand the applicant's needs and lifestyle. If the application is approved, the prospective adopter will be invited to meet the pet they are interested in. This meeting allows both the adopter and the pet to interact and assess compatibility. Should both parties feel it is a good match, the final adoption paperwork will be processed. This will include an adoption fee, which helps support the organization and its mission. After the adoption is finalized, Paws Across Pittsburgh provides resources and guidance to help ensure a successful transition for the new pet into their forever home.

Paws Across Pittsburgh is a non-profit animal rescue organization, classified as a 501(c)(3), based in the Pittsburgh area. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs and cats that are homeless, abused, or unwanted. We operate entirely with the help of volunteers, focusing on providing veterinary care, socialization skills, and nutritional support while the animals are in loving foster homes. Every animal that comes into our care receives necessary veterinary treatment, including spaying or neutering, vaccinations, and preventative care. Our primary goal is to ensure that each animal finds a loving, permanent home. We also offer a monthly pet pantry, provide temporary fostering for emergency situations, and have a Senior Pets for Seniors program, among other services.
