Forever Love Rescue Inc in Gettysburg, PA
Mission: Our mission is to assist as many animals as possible, with the hope that one day our services will no longer be necessary. Inspiration: Vega's New Leash on Life was established in honor of a rescued Flat-Coat/Lab Retriever mix named Vega, who joined our family when my boyfriend brought her home. She quickly became the matriarch of our household, always by my side, happily wagging her tail as she followed me around. Vega was one of the most devoted dogs I have ever known and reminded me of my childhood dog, a black lab named Bianca. In August 2012, I returned home during my lunch break to find Vega a bit lazy, yet still wagging her tail. Within a few hours, she transitioned from appearing unwell to passing away at the veterinary office due to an unidentified tumor. At only 7 or 8 years old, her loss was devastating. After some time adjusting to life without her among our remaining five dogs, we recognized the need to fill her spot in our pack, and it was clear that this would be another rescue. After weeks of searching online, I discovered a 4-5 month old puppy who resembled Vega and seemed to be an angel. We began the adoption process and soon found ourselves immersed in the world of rescues, shelters, and transports. We made a 10-plus hour drive to a shelter in Bamberg, SC, where we met an incredible man named Bob, who dedicates his time to helping animals in need. The shelter was in disrepair, housing about 40 abandoned or lost dogs, each of whom touched our hearts and made us wish we could take them all home. While there to adopt our new puppy, we also assisted in rescuing two abandoned puppies from a culvert. It was at that moment we realized we had found our calling. When our new puppy arrived at her forever home, she was welcomed by the other dogs and quickly settled in, fitting seamlessly into the pack. On our first walk that evening, she led me to the front yard, heading straight for the tree where we had recently buried Vega. She approached the gravesite, bowed her head, and softly "whisper-barked" before returning to the house, as if to reassure us that she would take care of the others. After an hour of tears and disbelief, I understood that she was exactly what we needed, and we were exactly what she needed. Since that moment, we have been committed to ensuring that no other beloved animals go without the care and love they deserve. And that is where we stand today.
