Adoption Process

All adoptions require a completed application, with no exceptions. We only adopt to families located within one hour (60 miles) of the St. Louis and St. Charles areas to ensure feasible transportation for our fosters and volunteers. Same-day adoptions are not permitted, either from our fosters or at adoption events. All pets must be properly vetted, which includes vaccinations, spaying or neutering, and microchipping. Additionally, home visits must be conducted before any pet can be adopted. Adoption donations are non-refundable and are classified as taxable donations to Lucky Chance Rescue. Once you submit your application, it will be forwarded to the foster coordinator and the foster caregiver. Please allow at least 48 hours for us to review your application. Someone will reach out to inform you if the pet is available and to learn more about you. As we are all volunteers, we appreciate your patience during the application process. After your application is approved, a home visit and meet-and-greet will be scheduled. If both you and the foster coordinator agree to proceed with the adoption, the foster will review the adoption contract with you, provide guidance on integrating your new pet into your home, and share training tips along with other useful information. The tax-deductible donation is $300 for dogs and puppies and $125 for cats and kittens. This donation helps cover the costs associated with rescuing animals, including vaccinations, medical treatments, emergency care, food, shelter, as well as supplies such as puppy pads, pens or crates, transportation, toys, leashes, harnesses, collars, tags, bowls, bedding, litter boxes, litter, grooming items, and other basic care needs. Payment must be made in full by check, cash, or online through our website at the time of adoption. We offer a two-week trial period to allow you time to bond with your new pet. If, for any reason, you are unable to keep the pet, you may return them during this period. After the two weeks, if you decide to keep your new pet, Lucky Chance Rescue will provide you with all necessary veterinary records and microchip information.

Lucky Chance Rescue is a foster-based animal rescue organization located in Lake St. Louis, Wentzville, and O'Fallon, Missouri. We are dedicated to rescuing dogs and cats from our community and the surrounding areas of St. Charles and St. Louis County.
