Adoption Process

The adoption process involves several steps. First, you will need to complete an adoption application. This is followed by a phone interview and an in-person interview, during which you will have the opportunity to meet the birds. If you are approved, you will have a second visit to interact with the birds again. Once approved, you will pay the adoption fee and receive guidance on nutrition, household hazards, and other important aspects of bird care.

I am a veterinarian with more than 30 years of experience specializing in avian care. I founded Burge Bird Rescue alongside my veterinary practice to provide a dedicated resource for birds in need. Clients visiting our hospital can view adoptable birds through a window in the examination room and a large window in the lobby. We focus on rescuing birds because many shelters do not accept them, despite birds being the third most commonly kept pet. The need for rehoming is particularly significant for large parrots, which can easily outlive their owners.
