Adoption Process

Our adoption process prioritizes matching families with the most compatible dogs rather than operating on a first-come, first-served basis. We reserve the right to deny any application. We encourage prospective adopters to research the breed thoroughly, including reviewing suggested materials such as the Great Dane Breed Information. Please allow 7 to 10 days for us to process your application. We will follow up with you via email or phone regarding the status of your application. We will check veterinary references before scheduling viewings of available Great Danes, and a home evaluation will also be arranged. Once we have completed the necessary steps and received approval from our board, we will work to find suitable matches for you. If there are currently no dogs that fit your criteria, we appreciate your patience as you will be placed on a waiting list and contacted when a match becomes available. After visiting a potential match, please inform us of your decision to adopt or not adopt within 24 hours via email or phone. An adoption fee is required prior to finalizing the adoption, which contributes to the medical care, supplies, and food for the dogs. This process does not conclude with the adoption; we will continue to follow up on the placement in the coming months.

Great Dane Rescue of Southeast Texas in Houston, TX

Our Message Respect is a fundamental principle that holds significant meaning for many. It is a simple yet profound concept. When we consider rescued Great Danes, we recognize the respect they deserve. These dogs are adaptable, flexible, and often remarkable companions. They integrate seamlessly into foster and permanent homes, as if they have belonged there all their lives. Given the difficult circumstances from which some of these dogs come, one would expect respect to be a natural response. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Some individuals, who adhere to traditional standards of the breed, may focus on superficial traits such as color, conformation, or other criteria. Many of us have experienced the pain of this perspective, as we deeply care for these dogs—both those in rescue and those we have adopted. It is essential to remember that we did not breed or sell these dogs, nor did we acquire them impulsively or without understanding. Our mission is simply to provide a better life for the dogs we have taken into our rescue program. There is no hidden agenda. The presence of disabilities such as blindness or deafness, physical scars, unique eye colors, or conditions like malnourishment and heartworm positivity does not diminish their value in our eyes. We do not impose a specific standard on rescued Great Danes—most breed rescues do not. While we do encounter many beautiful show-marked Danes, our primary goal is to improve the lives of homeless, unwanted, or neglected Danes. In summary, our decisions are guided by both factual information and compassion. If you share our perspective, we welcome your support. If you do not, we ask for your understanding of our choices and, above all, your respect for the dogs.
