Adoption Process

To begin the adoption process, a potential adopter must fill out an adoption application. This application will be reviewed and approved by a member of the ASVT board, who may request additional information if necessary. Once an application is approved, it will be sent to the animal's foster caregiver, who will reach out to the potential adopter to schedule a meet and greet. If the adoption proceeds, an adoption contract will be finalized. The adoption fee is $150 and up for dogs and ranges from $50 to $125 for cats. This fee covers the animal's spay or neuter surgery, a microchip, and all essential vaccinations, including rabies.

Animal Shelter Volunteers of Texas (ASVT) operates under the motto "Help Us Help Them." As an all-volunteer organization dedicated to animal welfare, ASVT does not maintain a physical location; instead, all animals are cared for in foster homes until they are adopted. ASVT organizes adoption events at various locations throughout Montgomery County, Texas. The organization's members collaborate with other rescue organizations to ensure that dogs and cats are placed in environments where they will receive the best possible care. Donations to ASVT are used to transport pets to out-of-state rescues and shelters that have high adoption rates and require additional adoptable animals. Furthermore, donations help cover the medical expenses for severely sick or injured pets. Additionally, ASVT utilizes contributions to purchase essential supplies, including crates, specialty pet foods, treats, vaccines, dewormers, flea and heartworm preventatives, and more.
