Adoption Process

The cost of adopting a dog varies based on age and special status. For puppies aged 0 to 6 months, the adoption fee is $250. For adult dogs aged 6 months or older, the fee is $125. VIP dogs have a fee of $50, and senior dogs aged 7 years and older also have a fee of $50. A valid picture ID is required to adopt an animal from the SPCA of Texas. When you adopt a dog, the following services and items are included: spay or neuter surgery, 30 days of pet health insurance provided by PetHealth, a physical exam, a health evaluation, a behavior assessment, vaccinations for distemper and kennel cough (Bordetella), a rabies vaccination (if the dog is at least 4 months old), a rabies tag, a starter bag of Hill's Science Diet Dog Food, flea and tick treatment, a heartworm test for adult dogs, heartworm preventative for puppies and adults, free heartworm treatment for all heartworm-positive dogs through our partnership with VCA Animal Hospitals, de-worming treatment, a microchip, follow-up support, and a free health examination within fourteen days of adoption, also courtesy of VCA Animal Hospitals. Additionally, a temporary leash is provided. For cat adoption, the fee for kittens is $125. For adult cats, the adoption fee is flexible, allowing you to name your own price, and there is a two-for-one offer available. A valid picture ID is also required for adopting a cat from the SPCA of Texas. Included in a cat adoption are the following: spay or neuter surgery, 30 days of pet health insurance provided by PetHealth, a physical exam, a health evaluation, a behavior assessment, vaccinations for Feline Rhinotracheitis, Calici, and Pan-Leukopenia as appropriate, a kennel cough (Bordetella) vaccination, a rabies vaccination (if the cat is at least 4 months old), a rabies tag, a starter bag of Hill's Science Diet Cat Food, flea and tick treatment, de-worming treatment, a microchip, follow-up support, and a free health examination within fourteen days of adoption through our partnership with VCA Animal Hospitals. A temporary carrier is also provided along with the microchip.
