Texarkana Animal League in Texarkana, TX

The Texarkana Animal League has been dedicated to serving the pet population of Texarkana since the 1940s, evolving through various roles over the decades. We have acted as animal advocates and were previously contracted by both of our twin cities to manage the daily operations of the local animal shelter. As of December 2008, we transitioned away from this contract, allowing us to refocus on our original mission as advocates for animal welfare. Our organization is committed to providing protection and care for abandoned, abused, neglected, and unwanted companion animals. We aim to promote animal welfare through programs and services that benefit both animals and the community. Through our annual fundraiser, the "Tails of Two Cities" Day Planner, we have launched three community-based initiatives. One program assists low-income households with spaying and neutering their pets, while another supports current rescuers with medical expenses for special needs animals. Additionally, we have established a foster care program to help pull animals in need from both the community and the shelter, providing the medical attention and socialization necessary for them to become adoptable. Our Spay/Neuter Assistance Program offers low-cost services to residents of Bowie, Cass, Little River, and Miller counties. This program includes spaying or neutering, wellness checks, vaccinations, and heartworm testing, with costs set at $50 for dogs and $35 for cats. The Texarkana Animal League covers all expenses for this program, ensuring that pricing remains consistent for the public. All of our adoptable animals are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. These comprehensive care measures enhance their adoptability. We have partnered with Petfinder.com and PetSmart Charities to promote our adoptable animals effectively.
