CHA has been serving the Commerce community since 1969, adapting in size and focus over the decades. Our organization primarily fosters animal welfare and advocates for effective animal control in the City of Commerce. We are actively involved in addressing abuse cases and currently operate a shelter near Wolfe City. Each year, we host several events that offer low-cost vaccinations, provide information about pet care, and recognize individuals who contribute to animal welfare. Additionally, we assist with local spay/neuter grant programs, offer support for animal care in hardship situations, and provide microchipping services. As the Vice President of CHA, I manage much of the website and help with various tasks at the shelter and within the organization. My motivation comes from my passion for cats and the feral animals that lack advocates.

Adoption process

Our adoption process begins with a straightforward application that requires basic contact information. We request a donation as an adoption fee, typically around $100, which generally covers the costs associated with caring for the animal. However, we can be flexible with this fee if necessary. All animals in our care are either spayed or neutered, or they will be required to undergo this procedure when it is deemed healthy for them. Our shelter is open regularly on Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM. Additionally, we are in the process of scheduling off-site adoption events.

Service area: We provide services in Commerce, Greenville, and Wolfe City in Hunt County. Our coverage extends from Sulphur Springs in Hopkins County to Cooper in Delta County, as well as Ladonia and Bonham in Fannin County. Additionally, we reach into Rockwall County and have facilitated some adoptions in Mesquite, Dallas County.
